Bedwetting is a problem for many teenagers
It’s said that around 2% of all teenagers struggle with an ongoing bedwetting problem - or around 1 in 75, so it’s more common than most of us realise.
And, as any health professional working in this field will tell you, the true number is very likely to be far higher, This is a secret, hidden problem that no-one likes to talk about and as children get older, solutions can be even harder to find.
In fact, once the teenage years start, the help on offer seems to simply vanish, doesn’t it? The majority of teenagers struggling with this problem will have already tried the most obvious solutions such as bedwetting alarms and medications.
The usual advice to simply ‘wait and you’ll grow out of it’ starts to wear a bit thin – as that ‘growing out of it’ day never seems to come.
Teenagers with a bedwetting problem will not only be experiencing worries about spending nights away from home with friends, or at summer camps, university and college. The disturbed sleep, anxiety and embarrassment impacts mental health making everything from friendships to passing exams and concentrating at school, so much harder.
